Misenge Environmental & Technical Services Ltd (METS) is a multifaceted full service company with a traceable excellent knowledge and record of environmental management in the mining and mineral processing industry in Zambia. Misenge Environmental and Technical Services Ltd is a 100% owned subsidiary of ZCCM-IH.

History

Misenge Environmental and Technical Services Ltd (METS) is the former Environment Department of ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc (ZCCM-IH). The Department traced its existence back to 1994, when Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM) Ltd established Group Environmental Services (GES), with designated personnel at the Operations Centre of ZCCM Ltd and at each of the operating divisions. In 1997, in order for ZCCM Ltd to comply with the Mines and Minerals Act of 1995, GES spearheaded the development of the ZCCM Ltd Environmental Impact Statement for Chambishi, Chibuluma, Kansanshi, Konkola, Luanshya, Mufulira, Nampundwe, Nkana, Nchanga mines and Ndola Lime Company Ltd. Extract from 2016 annual report

Misenge Environmental and Technical Services Limited (METS) earned a total of K6.22 million as revenue for the year ended 31 March 2016 (2015: K6.23 million). METS recorded a loss after tax of K2.9 million (2015: K0.6 million).

METS was awarded a contract as a project management consultant frm during the nine month preparatory stage of the Zambian Mining Environmental Remediation and Improvement Project (ZMERIP). ZMERIP is a World Bank led project whose “objective is to reduce environmental health risks to the local population associated with the mining sector in critically polluted areas in Kabwe and Copperbelt provinces through improved capacity of the key institutions”. This is expected to improve METS’s income base going forward.

There were no dividends declared during the year under review (2015: nil).

Misenge Environmental and Technical Services Limited (METS) reported a total revenue of K6.2 million for the year ended 31 March 2015 (2014: K2.1 million). Of the revenue, K3.3 million was realised from the recurring services to ZCCM-IH, K0.8 million was from the management of ZCCM-IH’s statutory and contractual obligation and K0.96 million was earned from other clients. The revenue generated from other clients was mainly from environmental consultancy services (59%), and from radiation consultancy services (36%) with the balance realised from analytical services. METS recorded a loss after tax of K0.6 million (2014: K3.4 million loss).

During the period under review, Misenge undertook the construction of a new Analytical Laboratory and the extension of the old laboratory in Kabwe. The new laboratory will provide expert chemical analyses of metals, water, radiation, blood, soil and other minerals. The budget for the construction and extension was K1.6 million. As at 31st March 2015, all major construction works were completed for the new laboratory. Additionally, all the lab equipment was purchased except for the fume and dust extractors that required an additional K0.75 million. The Misenge board approved the additional funding to expedite the installation of the new lab equipment.

There were no dividends declared during the year under review (2014: Nil).
