On July 23, 2025, ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc (ZCCM-IH) officially commissioned a solar-powered water borehole and solar electrification projects in Mapatizya, Zimba District – Southern Province. 

The ceremony, held at Mapatizya Clinic, was graced by Southern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Yolanta Mutyambe Malunga, who described the milestone as “a shining example of how investment can transform communities.” 

ZCCM-IH Board Chair, Mr. Phesto Musonda, reaffirmed the Company’s commitment to driving sustainable community development, noting that providing clean water and energy to underserved communities is part of ZCCM-IH’s vision of ensuring the benefits of mining extend to all Zambians. 

The commissioned works included a solar-powered borehole equipped with a 10,000-litre tank and a reticulation system. In addition, solar power systems were donated to the local clinic facilitating lighting and the operation of essential medical equipment; the school powering the computer lab, all classrooms, and the staff room; the police post; and the market bringing electricity to these vital facilities for the first time since independence. 

This initiative is part of ZCCM-IH’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, which seeks to uplift livelihoods, strengthen public institutions, and promote climate-resilient solutions for rural communities.
