ZCCM-IH Board Underscores Local Content in Mining Growth

Publication date: 23 September 2026

The Board of Directors of ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc (ZCCM-IH) has reviewed progress on key operations and development projects at CNMC Luanshya Copper Mines (CNMC Luanshya), an investee company in which ZCCM-IH holds a 20% equity interest. The Board also underscored the importance of strengthening local content so that growth in Zambia’s mining sector delivers lasting value for the Company’s shareholders and tangible economic opportunities for Zambians. The visit, held on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, formed part of the Board’s Copperbelt investment tour and its ongoing oversight of ZCCM-IH’s investment portfolio. The tour is focused on assessing operational performance, monitoring the delivery of strategic projects and identifying opportunities to enhance value creation. Led by ZCCM-IH Board Chairperson Mr Phesto Musonda, the Board engaged the management of CNMC Luanshya, led by Chairman Mr Jiang Lei, on the mine’s FY2025 and H1 2026 performance. Discussions covered operational and financial performance, exploration, human resources, health and safety, key challenges and the actions planned to address them. The Board toured key operations and development projects, including Shaft 28, where dewatering has been completed and underground clearing and construction works are under way, and the new mine site at Shaft 28, where it assessed progress on development works. The tour also covered the Mashiba Ramp construction, Muliashi Open Pit backfilling, vent shafts and winders, giving the Board first-hand insight into the mine’s operational and development activities. 1 Mr Musonda emphasised that increased investment and production in the mining sector must translate into tangible economic opportunities for Zambians. He said, “Growth must have a real trickle-down effect. Our investments must create opportunities for Zambian businesses, develop local skills, create jobs and strengthen communities.” He reaffirmed ZCCM-IH’s commitment to supporting the Zambia Growth Vision of 10-10-5-3-3 1-1-1, noting that the Company has an important role to play in the next phase of Zambia’s mining growth and economic development. Commenting on the visit, ZCCM-IH Chief Executive Officer Mr Kakenenwa Muyangwa said, “As an active shareholder, our role is to stay close to the assets that drive value for our shareholders. At Luanshya, the Board has seen tangible progress on projects such as Shaft 28 that are important to the mine’s long-term production. We will continue to work closely with CNMC Luanshya management to ensure these projects are delivered efficiently and translate into sustainable returns. Local content is central to that value proposition. A stronger Zambian supply chain and a skilled local workforce make our operations more resilient and more competitive over the long term.” The visit comes as ZCCM-IH advances growth across its portfolio, including increased copper and energy production, while strengthening the performance and long-term value of its investments. Through the broader Copperbelt investment tour, the Board is engaging investee companies, reviewing performance, monitoring strategic projects and strengthening oversight across the portfolio. The engagements have resulted in agreed follow-up actions on key operational and strategic matters, and the Board will continue to monitor progress through further engagements with investee companies. ZCCM-IH remains focused on active stewardship of its investments to support sustainable returns for shareholders, increased local participation and lasting benefits for the people of Zambia.
